It wasn’t the most exciting of encounters. Chelsea boss Lampard handed a start to young Scotland sensation Billy Gilmour as both managers rung the changes for the match.
There was no real chances early on except a few half chances, with McTominay and James both striking wide. In the 25th minute, James worked his way into the box after Alonso gave the ball away, with the latter fouling the former.

It was soft but no VAR meant that Rashford stepped up to put United ahead. Both teams went in at the break with the score at 1-0 to the hosts.
In the 2nd half, Chelsea started to wake up with Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic both having chances. However, just after the hour mark, a Batshauyi stunner levelled the match.
Caballero played it long, Batshauyi headed it over Maguire and ran with the ball, before striking in the bottom corner from just outside the box.
However, this was short-lived as 11 minutes later Fred was fouled about 25 yards out. Rashford stepped up and sent a Roanldoesque free-kick in the top corner to put United ahead. The hosts huffed and puffed but couldn’t find the goal that would take it to penalties.
